
As an intern at our coffee and tea plant, your task is to evaluate whether there is a business case for reducing changeover time on packaging lines by applying the Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) methodology. The plant has 3 packing sections, each with their unique packaging lines.
Objectives
1. Understand the current changeover processes in each of the 3 sections.
2. Identify areas where changeover time can be reduced using SMED methodology.
3. Evaluate the potential benefits and costs associated with reducing changeover time.
4. Provide recommendations based on your findings.
Scope
This assignment will focus on the packaging lines in the 3 sections of the plant. You will need to gather data on current changeover times, analyze the processes, and identify opportunities for improvement using SMED methodology.
Your key assignments will include:
1. A detailed report on the current changeover processes and times in each section.
2. An analysis of potential areas for improvement using SMED methodology.
3. A cost-benefit analysis of implementing SMED to reduce changeover times.
4. Recommendations for reducing changeover times and the expected impact on productivity and costs.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone with a hands-on, creative approach to problem-solving. You’ll thrive in this role if you are:
Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Food Science Mechanical Engineering or a related field and speak Dutch.
Creative: You love developing new ideas and translating them into tangible actions.
Communicative: You’re a confident communicator, both verbally and in writing.
Organized: Able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Passionate: You care about coffee & tea and gaining experience within a fast paced manufacturing environment
Available for a full-time internship of 5–6 months, ideally starting August or September 2025.
